PATIO FURNITURE VINYL STRAP REPLACEMENT
SINGLE WRAP PROCESS STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTION
HOLLOW FRAME (SQUARE OR ROUND)
It’s highly recommended to use googles and gloves for the purpose of installation.
STEP 1 - First cut off all the old straps and fasteners using a pair of pruning (garden) shears. Then clean
the piece thoroughly. If you need to paint your furniture or get some structural repair this is the perfect
moment.

STEP 2 - Put the piece for strapping on a table or work desk. Use a cloth measuring tape
to find the exact measurement hole to hole making sure to go around the outside of the frame.
STEP 3 - Deduct approximately 2-1/2” from the exact measurement obtained in STEP 2. Then cut a
couple of straps off the roll of vinyl. (Make sure not to cut all the straps at a time since you may want to
adjust the strap length after checking how the first couple of straps fit around the frame).
For instance:
Precise measurement hole to hole comes to 25”; minus 2-1/2”; equals 22-1/2”. Cut straps to 22-1/2”.
* Note - Rule of thumb in trimming straps: Deduct approximately 10% of exact measurement.
STEP 4 - Trim off the corners on each end of the vinyl straps by using pruning (garden) shears. When
you get some practice you can stack several pieces and trim them three or four at once.
STEP 5 - Use a leather punch or an electric drill with a 3/16” bit and carefully drill a hole in the center of
the strap about 1/4” from the end of the strap. Apply this step to both ends.
STEP 6 – Now please insert the nylon fasteners in both ends of vinyl strap.
The strap needs to be heated first and then stretched over the frame of furniture. If continuous strapping is
expected put on a pair of golf gloves. That should reduce fingers burn caused by handling the hot strap.
Also we advise you to wrap some adhesive tape around the top of your thumb and index finger for a tad
better insulation before you put on the gloves.
STEP 7 - Use a heated plate or other heat source to boil a large bucket of water. Once the water has come
to a boil insert several straps with fasteners inserted. Then reduce the heat so the water stays hot yet not
boiling. Keep the straps in water for at least 2 minutes. If you leave them in longer it won’t do any
damage. Then remove one strap and dry it with a towel.
STEP 8 - While the strap remains hot approach frame from underneath attaching fastener and bring strap
around outside of frame.
STEP 9 - Stretch strap evenly and steadily pulling strap over top of opposite side of frame.
STEP 10 - Using heavy thumb pressure against the frame to hold vinyl in place, attach fastener with other
hand. Relax thumb pressure and strap will contract as it cools down.
